چکیده
2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) microfibres with diameters ranging between 3 and 7 µm were prepared by aqueous solution based high-speed electrospinning (HSES) technique then used as carbonising agent at wt% loading besides 15 ammonium polyphosphate (APP) to obtain flame-retarded poly(lactic acid) (PLA) composites. The high specific surface area of the microfibrous HP-β-CD was found have a crucial role in its flame retardant efficiency. Compared effect same amount conventional powder additive, resulted higher char yields both during thermogravimetric analysis cone calorimeter test accompanied significantly increased mechanical resistance consequently improved retarding efficacy. Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) intumescent PLA composite noticeably, from 29.0% 32.5%, while Flame Retardancy (FRI), determined calorimetry data, 1.9 (with HP-β-CD) 2.6 only changing physical form i.e. HP-β-CD. advantage special structure oligosaccharide type charring lies efficient interaction APP attribution layer thermal without compromising swelling ability. Cyclodextrin-inclusion complexes (CD-ICs) possess great prominence in food and pharmaceutical industries due to their enhanced ability for stabilization of active compounds during processing, storage and usage. Here, CD-IC of gallic acid (GA) with hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (GA/HPβCD-IC) was prepared and then incorporated into polylactic acid (PLA) nanofibers (PLA/GA/HPβCD-IC-NF) using ele...
متن کاملFabrication of Electrospun Polylactic Acid/Cinnamaldehyde/-Cyclodextrin Fibers as an Antimicrobial Wound Dressing
Cinnamaldehyde (CA) was successfully encapsulated in β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), and polylactic acid (PLA)-based composite fibers were prepared by incorporating CA/β-CD via electrospinning. Morphological, structural, spectral, and antibacterial properties of different weight ratios of PLA:β-CD/CA (88:12, 94:6, 97:3, and 98.5:1.5) and PLA/CA/β-CD fibers were investigated. PLA and CA/β-CD were incorpo...
متن کاملPolylactic acid (PLA)
This website provides an excellent overview of PLA as a polymer, its properties, and manufacture. This web article describes the production of lactic acid from biomass by microbial fermentation coupled to a poly-merization process to make PLA. The article is a bit dated and its industrial projections are now seen to be a bit over-optimistic. NatureWorks is the company that started large-scale p...
